Yes, because of Proton, I’m seriously considering dumping Microsoft now. My big holdup was my library of Steam games. I just found out about Proton a couple of weeks ago, and as it turns out, most of my games are pretty compatible.
I participate in Street Complete already. But I was interested in something more game-like.
I was thinking about the exact same thing! Open source, OSM mapping with a Pokemon-like travel and collection game. But I’m super busy in grad school at the moment, so I can’t do it. Just put the idea out into the universe for now.
There are PeerTube servers that allow a certain reasonable amount of content for free.
PeerTube is also a Fediverse service, and does the longer form videos, like YouTube. It mostly works fine; it just lacks content.

Five years from now, those platforms will become enshittified as their budgets dry up. They will need to milk the users for revenue. Well see another surge in a few years, until they learn that Mastodon is actually better.

Brave’s CEO is so anti-gay, he dished out 4-figure checks to fight gayness.
I’m not a fan of that, and Brave has issues with being Chromium-based, like Vivaldi.

Yeah, I do not think Python is a very good comparison.
I was thinking more like Clojure:
Honestly, I think both are right. Both are simple languages that expand your way of thinking, and are probably both worth learning, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Bluesky seems to work better as an alternative.
Until they run out of VC money.
Then the enshittification happens, to pay the bills.
In other news, I just tried Kubuntu in an older laptop a few weeks ago, and I’m pleasantly surprised. Superior to Windows in almost every way.
I don’t think it’s “ready for Grandma” yet, but pretty darn close.
