You also got to take into account that the decision to phase out nuclear was made before a critical mass (lol) of people realized that CO2 is a far bigger problem. I think the plants could be run some years more, but it takes more to flip a switch for that to work. We neither have personnel nor the supply chains anymore and building new plants will take decades, so it’s far easier to just put all effort into renewables.
