And most importantly - there isn’t millions of dollars spent to market it to people. You have to go out of your way to learn about Mastodon or federation in general, and as you say, their reputations precede them.

The Amazon reviews thing I assume is referring to Fakespot, which Mozilla bought some time ago.
But I’m confused about their “AI’ed it up” comment because from the very beginning Fakespot was using ML to determine the tone of reviews and whether or not they were lying about the product/paid reviews by the seller.
You really haven’t thought this through. What happens if I email you a bunch of illegal pictures? Guess we’re both going to jail.
If it costs the NYT money and buys the workers some bargaining power, I’m all for it.
I assume it’s the same in most areas - humans are really susceptible to sampling bias and if you live in an urban area, you’re going to see a higher number of immigrants or foreigners. Plus, in Japan specifically, there’s currently a big backlash against tourists fucking with people’s daily routines, so I’m sure people mentally think there must be hordes of foreigners constantly invading the country.
Interesting that Argentina has the largest disparity here, actually. I would have expected it to be the US, given the rhetoric.
It’s extremely disappointing to me (admittedly in the US) that Covid seems to have obliterated any chance for a large-scale investigation on payment processors’ stranglehold on our financial systems. The fees that Visa/Mastercard/etc. charge, especially for tiny merchants with insanely low transaction numbers, are criminal.
It’s a fair argument, especially given how much… entertainment he seems to derive from owning it.
A cable subscription isn’t a depreciating asset, though.
I think the fact that you’ve spent a lot of time in liberal organizations is why you think that way about where it falls on the continuum between progressivism and conservatism.
Interesting that you characterize my statement as "both sides"ing. I would say the thrust of my statement is not “both sides” but “one side”. America does not have a progressive party, only conservative and conservative-lite. Given the choice, of course I’ll choose the latter, not least because the former is so far off the deep end it may never recover as a party. That does not mean I think that both parties are the same.
Visually:
--------Progressivism ------------------------ Center ------ Liberalism --------------------------- Conservatism.
Liberals and conservatives are more similar than liberals and progressives.
In order to pay your utility bill, you have to beat the Undertale Sans fight in Genocide mode
Because it makes it harder for advertisers to mine and sell your data. That’s it.
I know. I was devastated when I first watched it, because I was so sure it was going to pass…
Also, if interested, check out this documentary: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Factory. Has a lot of interesting crosstalk between Chinese/American views on work and business.
Does anyone really think that Amazon cares what anyone wants?
Also, I’m pretty sure it’s not possible to install any other browser on iPhones unless you get root.
Edit: It looks like you can with iOS 15.0
Turns out the people who write the laws have an interest in making sure that the maximums for these crimes are low.
Deep-fried LLMs.
+1 to PopOS. My only gripe is that they and Nvidia still haven’t figured out how to move to Wayland, but once that happens (and we can all switch to cosmic), I’ll be a happy camper.
Honestly, being willing to jump to a new platform is possibly the most effective way to stop platforms from fucking you over too hard.
